Pirates, Passions and Patriots Walking Tour

Did romance, politics and intrigue save America?
Pirates roamed the streets of New Orleans for over a century. The Lafitte Brothers supplied Creole Louisiana with luxury goods and slaves. They were rich, powerful and well-connected.
They were also patriots. Were it not for Jean Lafitte's participation in the Battle of New Orleans, the city would surely have fallen into the hands of the British.
President Madison pardoned Lafitte and his gang after the Battle of New Orleans. They were heralded as heroes. Walk the streets and alleys where history was made. Learn how Andrew Jackson, a rag-tag team of "Kaintucks", Creoles, free people of color and pirates came together to save the nation.
Note: This is a walking tour on uneven sidewalks and streets, so please wear comfortable shoes! During warmer months, we recommend that you wear lightly colored clothing; caps/hats and umbrellas are also suggested.
